The opening night performance of “Hansel and Gretel,” at the Metropolitan Opera was a benefit for Legal Aid, beginning a long tradition of opening night benefits for Legal Aid. The program carried tributes to the organization from Mark Twain and Andrew Carnegie. The First Lady, Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt, attended the performance.
