Right to Counsel for Youth Established and More Expansion

An amicus brief filed by Legal Aid helped establish a right to counsel for juveniles in delinquency proceedings across the country.

The same year, offices for Legal Aid’s Civil Division opened in Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx. The Criminal Court offices expanded in Brooklyn and the Bronx. The Bronx Neighborhood Office was opened in Hunts Point with Office of Economic Opportunity funding. The Law Student Intern Program was established with approval of the Appellate Division.
