The Bronx District Attorney’s Office released an internal list of New York City Police Department officers with questionable credibility, becoming the first DA in the city to make such records available to the public, reports WNYC/Gothamist. In April, reporting revealed that all five New York City DAs maintained databases of incredible officers. The Legal Aid Society has long called on prosecutors to disclose this critical information as it significantly impacts cases.
“The release of these records is another important step towards transparency. But it is not the last step. We must continue to demand more public access to internal police misconduct information to allow the public to hold police and the administrations that protect them accountable,” said Cynthia Conti-Cook, Staff Attorney with the Special Litigation Unit at The Legal Aid Society.
