New York City’s immigrant rights defenders, including The Legal Aid Society, have voiced their support for an initiative by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to immediately release immigrants arrested by ICE who are now languishing in detention centers amid the deadly Coronavirus outbreak, as reported by El Diario.

“We echo the demand that ICE should immediately release all detained immigrants. For weeks, we have received increasing reports from our clients of unsanitary conditions, mass quarantines, and lack of medical care at all of these facilities that are putting their lives at risk,” reads a statement from the Legal Aid Society’s Immigration Law Unit.
