LAS Holds Annual Toy Giveaway, Despite Pandemic

The Legal Aid Society held its annual toy giveaway on Saturday, December 19th, distributing gift bags filled with toys and gift cards to needy area families – many of them homeless. It was a continuation of a longstanding Legal Aid tradition, as reported by NY1 News.

For the last 36 years, the famed NYC defender organization has hosted a holiday party for 500 children and their families every December, with gifts, donations and party volunteers drawing from some of the city’s top law firms. With a party out of the question due to COVID-19 health concerns this year, Legal Aid safely distributed gifts to families one at a time, to the children’s delight.

Pat Bath, the Society’s Director of Communications, expressed the commitment shared by Legal Aid and its partner law firms for keeping the less fortunate among us in our thoughts during this challenging holiday season.

“A lot of them are grandmothers taking care of grandchildren; a lot of them are single mothers. It’s a rough time for them, for food, winter clothing and toys for the children, so we at Legal Aid care very much for our children,” she said.

Special thanks to the following firms whose outstanding donations made it possible for the children and their families to enjoy the happiness of the holiday season: Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP; Hughes, Hubbard & Reed LLP; Morvillo, Abramowitz, Grand, Iason & Anello PC; Sullivan & Cromwell LLP; Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz; and Winston & Strawn LLP.
