Anthony Posada, Supervising Attorney of the Community Justice Unit at The Legal Aid Society, responded to a recent opinion piece in the New York Daily News with a letter to the Editor urging state lawmakers to repeal marijuana legalization this session and to invest the revenue from legalization in communities that have long shouldered the brunt of prohibition.
“As someone who was directly targeted by police, the only acceptable action for Gov. Cuomo this year is to legalize marijuana from a place of social justice,” Posada writes. “Do right by New York’s people of color, and invest the revenue in communities like mine that continue to shoulder the brunt of prohibition.”
