The Legal Aid Society is praising the City of New York for passing legislation that extends Title 8 discrimination protections to domestic workers.
Richard Blum, an attorney with The Legal Aid Society’s Employment Law Unit, recently appeared on Estrella TV Noticias to explain why the move is an important one.
While New York State’s 2010 passage of the Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights began to address some of the systemic exploitation faced by domestic workers, the City’s new law finally closes gaps in its anti-discrimination law.
This legislation makes it so that domestic workers finally have the right to be protected against all forms of employment discrimination – the same as workers of other industries.
