Watch: Wrongfully Convicted New Yorkers Demand Evidence Sharing Rules Stay

Governor Kathy Hochul is proposing changes to the State’s common sense discovery laws, which govern evidence sharing between defenders and prosecutors. The consequences for New Yorkers would be devastating.

While the changes have been described as tweaks, The Governor’s proposed changes would effectively repeal the 2019 reforms that incentivized prosecutors to share evidence promptly or face the consequence of potentially having their case dismissed.

In the video below, John “Divine G” Whitfield (played by Colman Domingo in the recent movie Sing Sing) and Jeffrey Deskovic, who were both wrongfully convicted, explain why New York’s current discovery laws are so important.
