The Legal Aid Society called on New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature to enact A10611/S08496, legislation introduced late Saturday night that would fully repeal Police Secrecy Law 50-A and provide important privacy protections for the victims of police violence, reports Politico New York.
“The Legislature now has zero excuse for not passing this bill and sending it immediately to the Governor’s desk for signature. While this legislation will never fully right the abuses our clients have and continue to endure at the hands of the NYPD, enacting this bill into law at once is a critical step forward towards transparency and accountability for one of America’s largest and most brutal police forces,” reads a statement from The Legal Aid Society.
