The opening night performance of “Hansel and Gretel,” at the Metropolitan Opera was a benefit for The Legal Aid Society, beginning a long tradition of opening night benefits to support our work. The program carried tributes from Mark Twain and Andrew Carnegie. The First Lady, Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt, attended the performance.
