The Legal Aid Society filed Doe v. New York City Department of Social Services, charging that the City failed to provide decent and humane conditions for children awaiting placement in foster care, bouncing them from facility to facility on a nightly basis. In Eugene F. v. George Gross, our attorneys charged that the City deprived hundreds of children of mandatory welfare services and support that would enable them to be adequately fed, clothed, and housed. An appellate court order in McCain required the provision of shelter for homeless families with children and prohibited the housing of families with children in all-night welfare offices.
