The Legal Aid Society’s Civil Practice issued a letter calling on incoming President Joe Biden to follow through on a bevy of campaign promises and extend protection to thousands of New Yorkers at risk of eviction, as reported by the Queens Daily Eagle.

The letter outlines a list of pressing housing priorities, including the full funding of public housing, an extension of the federal eviction moratorium, and provisions for an emergency relief fund for hundreds of thousands of struggling New Yorkers who remain at risk of eviction as the COVID pandemic continues to rage through the winter months.

“With COVID-19 cases surging across the state and no clear budget solutions, we implore you to fulfill the housing plan and budget promises you made on the campaign trail,” wrote Adrienne Holder, Attorney-in-Charge of The Legal Aid Society’s Civil Practice. “Access to housing that is affordable, stable, safe, and healthy is key to building racial equity and thriving communities, and we hope to work together to create an enduring positive impact on the lives of New York residents.”
