The Legal Aid Society has issued a joint statement with fifty organizations – including Enterprise Community Partners, the Association for Neighborhood & Housing Development and Housing Justice for All – in a letter to Governor Andrew Cuomo and state legislative leaders calling on them to extend the state eviction moratorium, as reported by POLITICO.

The statement warns that the state’s failure to establish a program to distribute a significant portion of the emergency rental assistance money to landlords and tenants puts thousands of families in jeopardy as the current eviction moratorium draws to a close.

“We are extremely concerned that, as thousands of families face mounting rental arrears, this funding has still not been disbursed,” the letter states.

The statement also calls for a series of guidelines on how the rental assistance program should be run, as well as improvements to existing longer-term rental assistance programs.
