Adriene Holder, Attorney-in-Charge of The Legal Aid Society’s Civil Practice, makes the case for two critical pieces of housing legislation that would protect New Yorkers in a letter to the editor of The New York Times.

Holder asked lawmakers to pass “Good Case” protections, which would provide basic securities to tenants living in unregulated units. Under the proposed law landlords would have to demonstrate a legitimate reason in order to evict tenants. She also urged Albany to fully fund the Housing Access Voucher Program, which would provide vouchers to homeless families allowing them to move from shelters to more permanent housing.

Holder called on Albany to act swiftly on these “common-sense protections” as the State’s eviction moratorium is set to expire in January.
