The Legal Aid Society brought this class action lawsuit on behalf of tenants who were overcharged as a result of their landlord’s decades-long violation of New York’s rent stabilization law. Lot 74 Realty, the landlord of 2523-2525 Aqueduct Avenue, acting on its own and through its agents, reaped the rewards of New York’s 421-a and J-51 tax benefit programs, which are designed to incentivize the construction and renovation of affordable housing and to protect seniors living on a fixed income against rent increases, while disregarding the legal obligations of the programs. The lawsuit is ongoing.
