Under the current Trump Administration, several countries are subject to a variety of travel bans and other restrictions. This advisory summarizes the restrictions by country, and is based on the following:
Some of the restrictions overlap and may conflict. For instance, a travel ban may prohibit all B1/B2 visitor visas for nationals of a certain country, while Department of State guidance provides for B1/B2 bonds for the same country. Assume the most restrictive rule applies.
Some of these restrictions may be subject to litigation, which may affect whether they are in force.
Travel Ban (June 4, 2025) – Full travel ban on both immigrants and nonimmigrants. Certain exceptions apply. Effective 12:01am EDT June 9, 2025. Continued by December 16, 2025 Travel Ban.
USCIS hold on affirmative benefit adjudications, per December 2, 2025 USCIS PM-602-0192. Continued by January 1, 2026 USCIS PM-602-0194.
Freeze on immigrant visas (only) at consulates – public charge. Applications still accepted and consular interviews may be conducted, but no immigrant visas may be issued by consulates during the freeze. Does not apply to dual nationals, if the other country is not subject to the freeze. Does not apply to nonimmigrant visas. Effective January 21, 2026.
B1/B2 visa bond of $5k, $10k, or $15k, under INA § 221(g)(3). Submit Form I-352 to post bond only after consular officer requires it. Effective January 21, 2026.
Travel Ban (December 16, 2025) – Full travel ban on immigrants and on B1, B2, B1/B2, F, M, and J nonimmigrants. Validity of other nonimmigrant visas to be reduced to the extent permitted by law. Certain exceptions apply. Effective 12:01am EST January 1, 2026.
