The Legal Aid Society is proud to take part in the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 6.
This year’s team includes:
Sarah Atkinson works as Chief of Staff to the CEO of Bank of New York Mellon. Other than running, she enjoys biking, eating good food (often after biking!), and hanging out with people while discovering cool places across New York City! This is Sarah’s first marathon, and she is excited to run for a great cause.
Shari Bernstein is an associate at Boies Schiller Flexner LLP who previously worked as a staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society. LAS has meant so much to Shari personally and professionally, and she is very excited and proud to run the 2022 NYC Marathon with Team LAS!
Peter Dunphy is a longtime runner, and currently a graduate student at UT-Austin, where he’s getting a Ph.D. in Government and a Master’s in Statistics. Prior to that, Peter worked at the Brennan Center for Justice and the Trevor Project.
Caitlin MacCrate is a psychologist at New York Presbyterian Hospital in the Special Needs Clinic and has already run four NYC marathons. Caitlin’s professional and personal life come together in raising funds for the Legal Aid Society in support of their advocacy and equitable access to justice.
Erin O’Reilly has been running in New York since moving to the city after college at the University of Virginia. This will be her second marathon and outside of work at Mirakl, a marketplace platform, Erin enjoys cooking, playing tennis, and visiting art museums.
Michelle Schwartz, a forensic social worker for youth in Brooklyn, has been working at the Legal Aid Society for 4 years and is excited to dedicate her 4th marathon to the organization! She can’t wait to run in all 5 boroughs that Legal Aid provides services to on November 6th!

Over the last nine years, Team LAS runners have raced through the five boroughs of New York City totaling over 1,074 miles and raising $160,000 in support of The Legal Aid Society’s legal units and projects providing life-saving services to New Yorkers in need.
When you run for Team LAS, you join a community of advocates who have run for justice, equality, and an end to the barriers that keep low-income New Yorkers from finding stability and security in their lives. With each mile run, and every dollar raised, we are able to extend our reach into the most vulnerable communities of our city.
*Our team is now full for 2022 but please contact Marvis Berry for information about the 2023 half marathon and 2023 full marathon.
