This booklet explains your rights when you apply for shelter at PATH. It explains the eligibility process and how to get help if you are found “ineligible.” Download the PDF (English / Spanish).

When you apply for shelter at PATH for the first time, only the adults in your family need to go in person to PATH (151 East 151st St, Bronx, NY 10451). You do not need to bring your minor children with you (but they can come if you want to bring them). If you don’t bring your children, PATH will ask to video call them. If you are found ineligible for shelter, you will need to reapply to stay in shelter. You can reapply over the phone from your shelter placement the first time you are found ineligible and do not need to return to PATH in person to re-apply. However, if you are found ineligible more than once, you and the other adults on your case may be asked to return in person to PATH to re-apply. It is important to reapply as soon as you receive a notice that says you’re ineligible.

When you apply for shelter, you will have to prove where you lived for the past two years. If you have trouble proving your housing history, DHS may say you are “ineligible,” which means they do not think you have proven you are homeless. Learn more here.
