LAS Attorneys Recognized As Housing Advocacy Leaders

Legal Aid attorneys Judith Goldiner and Ellen Davidson have been named to City & State’s Real Estate Power 100 list for their staunch advocacy on behalf of New York’s low-income tenants.

Each year, the list honors individuals working in real estate across the state, including developers, elected officials, commissioners, advocates, and academics.

Goldiner and Davidson have decried Albany’s inaction on the State’s ongoing housing crisis and have repeatedly called on lawmakers to pass common-sense measures, among them, budget natural “Good Cause” evictions protections, which would require landlords to demonstrate a justification for evicting tenants in unregulated units. It would also protect tenants from exorbitant rent hikes.

The creation of a State level housing voucher program also remains a top priority for housing advocates. The proposed program would provide a rental subsidy for low-income New Yorkers. Half of the program’s funds would go to families struggling to pay rent, allowing them to stay in their current homes. The other half of the money would go to homeless New Yorkers, providing a path to permanent housing.

Congratulations to Judith and Ellen; read the full list here.
