LAS Attorneys Recognized As Tenant Advocacy Leaders

Judith Goldiner and Ellen Davidson, attorneys with The Legal Aid Society’s Civil Law Reform Unit, have been named to City & State’s Real Estate Power 100 list for their tenacious advocacy on behalf of tenants.

Goldiner and Davidson are being honored for their work to keep New Yorkers in their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic and their continued push for sustainable housing solutions statewide.

During the height of the pandemic, they worked to extend a critical eviction moratorium and to craft a New York-specific rent relief program that included some of the strongest tenant protections in the country.

Their work helped families navigate the complex Emergency Rental Assistance Program, and a lawsuit brought by Legal Aid forced the State to reopen its application portal when it was closed prematurely.

Goldiner and Davison continue to work towards long-term housing solutions for tenants across the State, including “Good Cause” eviction protections and the creation and funding of a state-level Housing Voucher program that would create rental subsidies for low-income New Yorkers.
