Legal Aid attorneys representing Joseph Troiano – the client seen assaulted by NYPD officers in a recent viral video – have decried the department’s refusal to discipline Officer Adonis Long for the violent attack he carried out in the incident. Though Mr. Troiano was initially charged with assault and obstruction charges, those charges were dropped after DA Cyrus Vance reviewed the video.
Edda Ness, a Legal Aid staff attorney representing Mr. Troiano, continues to contest a resisting arrest charge, and blasted the NYPD for protecting police officers who pose a danger to the public, reports the New York Post.
“NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea’s refusal to discipline the officers who brutally assaulted our client should alarm all New Yorkers,” she said.
