LAS Hosts 38th Annual Community Holiday Gift Giving and Celebration

The Legal Aid Society held its Annual Holiday Toy Distribution for Children at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine on Thursday, December 16th. The event marks the 38th year that the organization has distributed toys for some 300 children—including 75 kids whose mothers are incarcerated at Rikers Island—and their families.

“The holiday season can be a deeply isolating and stressful time for the communities we serve. From court houses to communities, all kids deserve the joy that holiday gifts can bring,” said Janet Sabel, Attorney-in-Chief and Chief Executive Officer of The Legal Aid Society. “That is why I am so proud that, along with dozens of law firms and volunteers across the city, this event has been one of Legal Aid’s longest-running traditions.”

The Legal Aid Society thanks the following corporations and firms whose outstanding donations made it possible for the children and their families to enjoy the happiness of the holiday season: Bank of America; Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP; Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP; Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP; Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP; Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP; Morvillo, Abramowitz, Grand, Iason & Anello P.C.; Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP; Penguin Random House; Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP; Sullivan & Cromwell; Travelers; Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz; and Winston & Strawn LLP.
