Twyla Carter, Attorney-in-Chief and CEO of The Legal Aid Society, and Jason Wu, Attorney-in-Charge of Legal Aid’s Harlem Community Law Office have been named to City and State’s Power of Diversity: Asian 100 list.

The annual ranking honors Asian American individuals who are making a difference in government and politics city- and state-wide, including public officials, business executives, nonprofit leaders, and advocates across an array of issues.

Carter, who comes in at number twelve on this year’s list, joined Legal Aid in August, becoming the first Black woman and first Asian American to serve in this role in its over 145-year history. She engaged from day one on the critical issues of funding fairness and pay parity with City attorneys. She has also fought to ensure proper funding for New York City’s Right to Counsel program, which provides attorneys for low-income New Yorkers facing eviction. Recently, she has been a leading voice at the State level to protect New York’s historic pre-trial reforms.

This is Wu’s third straight appearance on the Asian 100 list. In addition to his work at Legal Aid, Jason is being recognized as a co-chair for GAPIMNY, an organization that was founded in 1990 to advocate on behalf of queer and transgender Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders
