LTE: LAS Calls on Albany to Extend Eviction Freeze Indefinitely

Judith Goldiner, Attorney-in-Charge of the Civil Law Reform Unit at the Legal Aid Society, penned a letter to the editor in The New York Times calling on Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislatures to enact an indefinite eviction moratorium.

New York’s eviction moratorium is set to expire October 1, 2020, and tens of thousands of families across the state could face immediate eviction.

“These renters, who make up the vast majority of New York City and who lack the resources to move on a dime to the Hamptons, have received little help from Albany. With the statewide eviction moratorium set to expire on Oct. 1, they could very well end up on the street just in time for cold weather.”
