Listen: Didn’t We Just March For This?

Olayemi Olurin, Staff Attorney at The Legal Aid Society’s trial office, appeared on the social justice-focused Resistance podcast to discuss the use of illegal force by the NYPD in the case of client Carlyle Arnold, who was subjected to an officer putting his knee on his neck in the course of his arrest.

Video of the arrest went viral in January, creating a wave of criticism over its similarity to video of George Floyd’s controversial arrest last year.

“The moment I saw it I was like ‘this is horrific’ for the obvious reasons,” Olurin said. “It’s just the boldfaced audacity to do something like that on the heels of George Floyd because it shows me that they don’t care, and how much contempt [and] disregard they have for my client’s lives.”
