In a letter addressed to the city, The Legal Aid Society highlighted a surge in demand for beds in homeless centers as people find themselves with nowhere else to go amidst the deadly COVID-19 outbreak.
Many of NYC’S 80,000 homeless people have high rates of underlying medical conditions, and are distinctly vulnerable to the highly infectious virus, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Advocates have called for the city to provide hotel rooms for the City’s homeless population so that they can self-quarantine and help stem the spread of the virus.
