In Stieberger v. Sullivan, the Federal Court approved a consent decree in The Legal Aid Society’s challenge to the Social Security Administration’s policy of “nonacquiescence,” through which the agency refused to apply Second Circuit decisions in individual disability cases affecting as many as 200,000 claimants.
