The Legal Aid Society Celebrates its 50th Anniversary

For the first time since its founding, The Legal Aid Society’s main support came from lawyers, with 60% of all contributions coming from the legal community. During our 50th anniversary celebration, William D. Guthrie, President of The Association of the Bar of the City of New York and honorary Vice President of the Society, as well as former partner in Guthrie, Cravath & Henderson, said that it was the duty of the organized Bar “to serve the poor to the fullest measure of its ability and resources.”
