Challenging Unethical Punishment in State Facilities for Youth

In Pena v. New York State Division for Youth, The Legal Aid Society challenged the use of solitary confinement, hand and leg restraints, and tranquilizing medication in The Goshen Annex, one of four centers for youth run by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.

The Criminal Appeals Bureau scored significant victories in the U.S. Supreme Court in LaRuffa v. New York and in Lefkowitz v. Newsome.
