An Interdisciplinary Approach to Representing Children

Most cases in Family Court involve multiple entangled social issues, requiring the integration of legal and social perspectives to best serve clients and families.

In Luke’s case, the partnership of a social worker and an attorney made all the difference. Luke is a medically fragile teen client who was removed from his mother’s care by the Administration for Children Services (ACS) against his wishes. He was held at a children’s hospital for months because ACS was unable to find an appropriate foster home to meet his medical needs. Despite his health issues, Luke always wanted to live at home with his family. In fact, his condition was exasperated in the hospital setting. After thorough investigation and collaboration with medical staff and family members, we outlined Luke’s needs and identified ways for him to return home safely with appropriate medical care and support of his family.
