Attorneys Launch GoFundMe to Support Exonerees’ Transition Home

Attorneys representing George Bell, Rohan Bolt, and Gary Johnson, New Yorkers who were wrongfully convicted of a double murder in Queens and incarcerated for the last 24 years, launched a GoFundMe to support the exonerees’ transition back to their homes and communities.

The three men, who were wrongfully convicted of a double murder in Queens and incarcerated for the last 24 years, walked out of prison on March 5, 2021.

The three men were originally convicted of killing Ira “Mike” Epstein and NYPD Officer Charles Davis during a botched robbery of Epstein’s check-cashing business on Astoria Boulevard.

However, defense teams for the three men found that key evidence, which could have proven their innocence, was deliberately withheld by prosecutors, who falsely denied such evidence existed, despite repeated defense requests for disclosure during the men’s trials.

Following the disclosure of the long-suppressed material by the new Queens District Attorney, defense lawyers filed a joint motion with the Queens District Attorney to vacate all three men’s convictions.

Justice Joseph Zayas vacated the convictions – holding that the Queens District Attorney’s Office and its prosecutors in the 1990s bore full responsibility for deliberately failing to disclose this exculpatory evidence — and released George, Rohan, and Gary on March 5, 2021.

After 24 years in prison, George, Rohan, and Gary are looking forward to re-starting their lives as free men.

The page is organized and run by George’s legal team, on behalf of all three men. Click here to donate.
