The Legal Aid Society condemned an executive order signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo that will do little to protect tenants from looming evictions and homelessness, as reported by Law 360.

Legal Aid and other housing advocates have long called Albany to implement a complete moratorium that would cover all tenants and all circumstances through at least the end of the pandemic.

“If the governor wasn’t going to help tenants by issuing an order that was stronger than the CDC order,” said Ellen Davidson, staff attorney at The Legal Aid Society, “it is not clear why he decided to issue an order at all.”
