Dalourny Nemorin Named Obama Foundation Leader

The Legal Aid Society is proud to announce that Dalourny Nemorin is among 205 leaders selected to join the Obama Foundation Leaders program. The program trains participants around the world in leadership development and civic engagement to help build their skills and scale their work across public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Dalourny will be one of just 100 Leaders participating in the Leaders USA program.

In her role as an attorney with the Criminal Appeals Bureau, Dalourny represents clients in direct appeals and post-conviction proceedings to challenge unfair convictions, sentences, and collateral consequences of the criminal legal system. As a Bronx resident and a child of immigrants, she is passionate about defending and advancing the rights of marginalized communities. Dalourny also serves as the committee chairperson of policies, bylaws, and legislation for the Bronx Community Board.

As part of the six-month program, these dedicated changemakers will convene virtually each week for interactive sessions designed to help them drive change by honing their leadership skills, building deep relationships with their peers, and engaging with thought leaders and members of the Obama Foundation community. They will also have an opportunity to participate in various virtual experiences and special events, including one-on-one conversations with experienced mentors in the Foundation’s global network.

“I am thrilled to have been selected to join the Obama Foundation Leaders program,” said Dalourny. “I am looking forward to getting to know the other Leaders in the program and am excited for the opportunity to learn from some of the most distinguished and experienced thought leaders from the Foundation’s network. I am grateful to the Obama Foundation for this incredible honor and hope to use what I learn throughout these six months to strengthen my advocacy in and out of the courtroom.”

“Dalourny is a powerful voice for her clients, because she weaves together the necessity of advocating for them on both the individual and the systemic level,” said Stephen Chu, Director of the Criminal Appeals Bureau at Legal Aid. “We have been incredibly fortunate to have her vision and thoughtfulness on our team, and we are excited that her leadership is being
recognized by the Obama Foundation.”

The Obama Foundation Leaders program is designed to further inspire, empower, and connect emerging leaders from Africa, AsiaPacific, Europe, and the United States to change their respective communities and the world.
