Listen: LAS Talks Federal Eviction Moratorium, NYS Housing Crisis on The Brian Lehrer Show

Judith Goldiner, Attorney-in-Charge of The Legal Aid Society’s Civil Law Reform Unit, appeared on The Brian Lehrer Show to discuss the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) new regulation which extends an eviction moratorium for certain tenants to the end of the year, and what that means for New Yorkers facing eviction.

While acknowledging the extension as some good news, Goldiner pointed out various loopholes with the moratorium that will impact tens of thousands of New Yorkers and called on Albany lawmakers to enact a full and true moratorium to extend relief to all tenants.

“We have been calling for [Governor Cuomo] to issue an executive order and for the legislature to pass a true eviction moratorium that will not just go until December 31st but will go until the crisis that we’re in is over,” Goldiner said. “We definitely see the eviction moratorium to being critical to public health, we just don’t think it goes far enough.”
