LTE: Giving a Greater Voice to the Child Enhances Fact-Finding and Decision-Making

In today’s New York Law Journal, Gary Solomon from The Legal Aid Society’s Juvenile Rights Practice, along with Karen J. Freedman from Lawyers For Children and Karen Simmons from Children’s Law Center make the case for empowering their young clients during divorce litigation.

“AFCs (attorney for the child) are inspired by the considerable wisdom of children, whose judgment about their best interests often proves at least as sound as that of the adults who have substituted their own judgment, and, in some cases, are not fully able to distinguish their child’s needs from their own.”
