LAS Celebrates Supreme Court Decision on LGBTQ+ Protections

The Legal Aid Society applauded the Supreme Court’s move yesterday to prohibit employment discrimination based on gender orientation and gender identity, representing a stunning win for the advancement of LGBTQ+ rights in American society.

The Legal Aid Society – represented by Brian Burgess of Goodwin Proctor – submitted an amicus brief to the court in support of the position that Title VII precludes employer discrimination based on transgendered status and sexual orientation, as reported by Law.com.

“Case law, social science, and real-life experience of sexual minorities—as represented by Legal Aid’s clients—all show that discrimination based on transgender status or sexual orientation by its nature implicates sex stereotyping,” the brief stated.
