LAS and Pro Bono Partners Secure Pardons for Two Clients

The Legal Aid Society – working with Kasowitz LLP and Blank, Rome LLP – secured pardons for two legal aid clients on Christmas eve, as reported by Pix 11.

Governor Cuomo granted pardons to Rosario Pena and Natasha Joseph, clients who faced likely deportation due to dated convictions.

Rosario Pena, who immigrated to the United States more than 50 years ago, but who was at risk of deportation based on decades-old convictions that were the direct result of her having been a victim of human trafficking.

Natasha Joseph, a long-term U.S. resident, faced near-certain deportation based on a single conviction, almost ten years ago, of a non-violent, and low-level offense.
