LAS Sounds the Alarm as End of NY Eviction Moratorium Policy Looms

Financially struggling New Yorkers relying on the state’s current eviction moratorium to stay in their homes may be at risk of eviction once that policy comes to an end on June 20th, according to CNBC.

While the moratorium has provided residents who have lost income due to the pandemic outbreak with temporary relief from the possibility of losing their homes, housing rights advocates worry that once the moratorium is lifted a wave of eviction proceedings could rock communities across New York city and state.

“People are continuing to struggle to pay their rent and relying on the moratorium, but the stress of knowing that after the moratorium, they might be evicted, is really intense,” said Julia McNally, an attorney at The Legal Aid Society in Queens, New York.
