LAS Welcomes Lynn K. Neuner as Chair of the Board of Directors

The Legal Aid Society today announced the appointment of Lynn K. Neuner to Chair of the Board of Directors, succeeding Zachary Carter, who served in this position for five years. Neuner’s appointment comes amid Legal Aid’s landmark 150th year of advancing justice for low-income New Yorkers.

Neuner is a Litigation Partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where she serves as Global Co-Chair of the firm’s Litigation Department. Neuner has extensive experience in pro bono representation and previously partnered with the Yale Law School Veterans Legal Services Clinic on a landmark case that established the right of veterans to bring class actions in Veterans Court.

In addition to her work with Legal Aid, Neuner also serves on the Lawyers’ Committee of the Inner-City Scholarship Fund, is a member of the Commercial Division Advisory Council, and is Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Practicing Law Institute.

“I am honored to take on the role of Chair of The Legal Aid Society’s Board of Directors at such a pivotal time in the organization’s 150-year history,” said Neuner. “For a century and a half, Legal Aid has been a lifeline for New Yorkers, adapting countless times to meet the changing needs of the people it serves. While I look forward to celebrating this incredible history, I am equally excited to look toward the future at how we can continue to represent and serve the people and communities who need us most.”

“We are proud to welcome Lynn Neuner as Chair of the Board of Directors, where her proven commitment to advancing justice for all New Yorkers will undoubtedly make her an invaluable asset to our organization,” said Twyla Carter, Attorney-in-Chief and Chief Executive Officer at Legal Aid. “I also want to thank Zachary Carter, whose dedicated leadership has helped strengthen and guide our organization throughout the past five years. As we commemorate Legal Aid’s 150th anniversary this year, I look forward to working alongside Lynn to build on our existing legacy and ensure that our organization remains a pillar of unwavering advocacy for low-income and vulnerable New Yorkers for years and decades to come.”
