LAS Attorneys Named Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40

Two attorneys from The Legal Aid Society, Mik Kinkead and Perry McCall, have been named to the LGBTQ+ Bar’s 40 Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40 List for their profound commitment to LGBTQ+ equality.

Perry McCall is a staff attorney with the HIV/AIDS Representation Project (H/ARP). In this role, he provides holistic representation and advice to low-income people living with HIV/AIDS in a variety of civil legal matters, including civil rights and discrimination, access to government benefits, housing law, health law, and estate planning. Perry strives to empower his clients (many of whom identify as LGBTQ+, POC, and/people living with disabilities) to maximize their well-being and participation in a society where they have often been unjustly marginalized.

Mik Kinkead is a staff attorney in both the Rikers Island Civil Re-Entry Unit and LGBTQ+ Law & Policy Unit. In 2019, Mik was appointed to the New York City Council’s Task Force to address policies and practices related to the treatment of transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary, and intersex peoples in the NYC jails. He has worked with transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary, and intersex people in New York City and State custody since 2013 teaching know your rights classes, offering direct representation, and challenging discriminatory policies and practices. Within both units he takes a multi-disciplinary approach of trainings, policy change, and litigation to protect and provde dignity to some of the most vulnerable New Yorkers.

Congratulations to Mik and Perry who will be recognized during the 2022 Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair. Read the full 40 Under 40 list here.
