New York Reopens COVID-19 Rent Relief Program

As of this Friday, December 18, New York State reopened the COVID-19 relief program to help tenants pay back rents, with $60 million in funding still available, as reported by Univision.

The aid will be available to those who prove they lost their income between April and June, as well as to households that, prior to March 7, were below 80% of the area median income.

“The program wasn’t designed correctly, because it didn’t help many tenants who applied with everything they owed,” said Sulay Grant, Supervising Attorney in our Bronx Housing Office.
