NYPD Officer Costs Tax Payers $1 Million in Settlements

Settlements for lawsuits brought against one NYPD sergeant, David Grieco, have cost New York City taxpayers over $1 million, as reported by the New York Daily News.

The City has paid $1,066,750 to settle 24 suits against Grieco and another 22 actions remain active against him. The lawsuits allege that Grierco has engaged in illegal street stops and arrests, and has carried out raids without proper warrants.

“Grieco epitomizes the lack of accountability and widespread impunity throughout the NYPD,” said Molly Griffard, an attorney with The Legal Aid Society’s Cop Accountability Project. “New Yorkers need the mayor and police commissioner to take action to root out misconduct and stop giving serial abusers like Grieco mere slaps on the wrist for abusing our neighbors.”

Mr. Grieco is still employed by the NYPD.
