Over 100 criminal justice reform groups – including The Legal Aid Society – called on New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio to create and maintain a database of correctional offer misconduct and disciplinary records online, freely accessible to the public, by September 15, 2020, reports POLITICO New York.
This database would include disciplinary records for employees of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) and the New York City Department of Correction (DOC).
“The overwhelming vote to repeal 50-a in the wake of the protests resulting from the murder of George Floyd should be considered a public mandate to bring to light not only information about police, but also information about law enforcement officers who operate outside of the public view,” reads a joint statement from the reform groups.
