Jennvine Wong, a staff attorney with the Cop Accountability Project at The Legal Aid Society, appeared in a new video by Business Insider reaffirming the need to defund the New York City Police Department (NYPD), a $6 billion agency with the largest budget of any police department in the United States.

Wong also urged that the City use those funding savings to invest in communities who have long shouldered the brunt of police abuse.

“It’s been clear that these reforms have not succeeded in achieving the kind of structural transformational change that everyone was out in the street protesting for,” said Wong. “When you reinvest in the community and when you reinvest in the services that actually address the root causes of these problems, we’re talking about actually making our communities safer overall over a longer-term.
