The Legal Aid Society called on Albany to simplify New York’s Rent Relief Program application process after hearing from concerned tenants on how the process, which can take more than two hours to complete, can be especially cumbersome, as reported by THE CITY.
Ellen Davidson, a staff attorney at The Legal Aid Society – which has been focusing on helping undocumented New Yorkers apply for relief funds – urged the New York State’s Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance to revamp the process so that it is less confusing and time-consuming.
“[Nonprofits] working on the program have been overwhelmed with tenants calling and trying to get help with filling out the applications,” said Davidson.
