Twyla Carter Named to New York City Power 100 List

Twyla Carter, Attorney-in-Chief and Chief Executive Officer of The Legal Aid Society, has been honored as part of City and State’s annual NYC Power 100 list.

The NYC Power 100 highlights elected and appointed officials, CEOs, nonprofit leaders, labor chiefs, academics, advocates, activists and other individuals shaping policies across the five boroughs.

During Twyla’s tenure, Legal Aid’s attorneys and staff have worked tirelessly to defend New York City’s Right to Shelter. It is fitting that she is honored on today’s list in tandem with Dave Giffen, Executive Director at Coalition for the Homeless.

In the last year, Legal Aid has also worked tirelessly to protect incarcerated New Yorkers from the deplorable conditions on Rikers Island and obtained important victories, including a settlement that will ensure dental coverage for millions of New Yorkers and legislation that will automatically seal certain conviction records, ending the perpetual punishment for many deserving New Yorkers.

Carter has worked relentlessly since joining the organization toward securing needed funding to significantly increase baseline salaries for all staff.

Congratulations to Twyla and Dave; read the full list here.
