The Public Housing Unit (PHU) continues to build on the decades-long work that The Legal Aid Society has been doing throughout the five boroughs on behalf of New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) public housing residents. The team in the Public Housing Unit are working daily on addressing the many different issues that impact NYCHA households- which also includes staffing a 24/7 helpline and supporting other Legal Aid staff in their representation of NYCHA households.

Preservation Trust

This is a time of great change for many NYCHA residents who may be facing a conversion to Section 8 housing under NYCHA’s PACT program or the NYCHA Preservation Trust. Legal Aid’s Public Housing Unit supports residents throughout this process by providing necessary information to explain the changes and ensuring that resident rights are protected.
