Marie Ndiaye, Supervising Attorney of the Decarceration Project at The Legal Aid Society, joined the Max & Murphy podcast to discuss the bail and discovery reforms enacted this past April, which will become effective January 1, 2020. These historic reforms will ensure that the accused have early access to critical evidence and that for the majority of crimes, New Yorkers will not be incarcerated on cash bail pretrial simply because the price of freedom is too high. These bills help to right a system that has long favored the prosecution, fed mass incarceration, and contributed to wrongful convictions and court delays.
