The Legal Aid Society brought this class action lawsuit on behalf of painters of high-end residential decorating and painting companies who were misclassified as independent contractors, were not paid overtime, had their pay illegally deducted for general liability and workers’ compensation insurance, and were not provided with annual wage statements and correct pay stubs in violation of federal and state law. In 2015, we reached a settlement agreement in which $400,000 was divided up between the over 80 workers affected.
