Staff continued to provide assistance to victims of Sandy, having handled more than 5,800 individual matters for New Yorkers impacted by the storm. Law firms continued pro bono assistance to the victims.

The increased use of forensic scientific evidence, especially DNA, resulted in a new DNA United in our Criminal Defense Practice comprised of experienced trial attorneys and attorneys with science backgrounds.

The Misdemeanor Arraignment Project was also established to provide social work services in arraignments for clients with mental health needs.
